Government has India has launched many Sarkari Yojana (Government Schemes) for Pregnant Indian Women and New born children to make their life easier. Some of these schemes are launched by Central government and some of these schemes are launched by respective State Governments. In today’s article, I will explain how you can take the benefit of these government schemes for Pregnant Women in India.

Government of India i.e. Central government and many State governments have launched many maternity benefit schemes to provide various allowances to pregnant women & lactating mothers in India.

Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana

Since 1 January, 2017 – Maternity Benefit Programme is implemented in all the Districts of the Country. The programme is named as ‘Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana’ (PMMVY). Under PMMVY, a cash incentive of Rs.5000/- is provided directly to the Bank / Post Office Account of PregnantWomen and Lactating Mothers (PW&LM) for first living child of the family subject to fulfilling specific conditions relating to Maternal and Child Health.

Under Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana’ (PMMVY), the pregnant women & lactating mothers will get Rs. 5000 as incentive to be paid in 3 installments from Government of India.

The beneficiary must register her pregnancy at the government approved health facility within 150 days of the LMP date which needs to be entered in the MCP Card. Thereafter, beneficiary can apply for availing maternity benefit at Anganwadi Centre or to ASHA/ANM within 730 days from the date of LMP.

Eligibility Criteria of Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana

Following are the eligibility condition for Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana.

  • All pregnant women of age 19 years or above are eligible for the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana scheme.
  • All pregnant women except employees of central or state government and public sector undertaking.
  • All pregnant women except one those who receive similar benefits from any other scheme.
  • The pregnant woman should register her pregnancy with government approved health centres within 150 days from LMP (last menstrual period).
  • The women who don’t have an authorized Mother-Child Protection (MCP) card will not get the benefits under this scheme.
  • MCP card is a must for the first and second instalments.

  • Visit the nearest Anganwadi Centre (AWC) and ASHA/ Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) workers.
  • They will assist beneficiaries in filling out the scheme application form and handing it over to Supervisor/ANM for verification along with requisite documents.

Mathrushree Scheme

Mathrushree scheme is state sponsored scheme for pregnant women in Karnataka. As per this scheme, pregnant women will get a total allowance of Rs. 6000 from the Karnataka Government.

In this scheme, Rs.1000 per month is being directly transferred to the Aadhaar linked bank account of pregnant women of BPL families for three months prior to the delivery and three months after the delivery.  So, the pregnant mother will get Rs. 1000 per month on seventh, eight and ninth month of pregnancy and Rs. 1000 per month on first , second and third month after delivery.

Eligibility Criteria of Mathrushree Scheme Karnataka

  • The applicant should be a pregnant woman in Karnataka
  • The applicant should belong to a  BPL family
  • Applicant should have a bank account linked with an Aadhaar card
  • Applicable only for the first two children of the mother

Muthulakshmi Maternity Benefit Scheme

 Muthulakshmi Maternity Benefit Scheme provides financial assistance of  Rs. 18000 to poor pregnant mothers in Tamil Nadu for first 2 deliveries. Dr Muthulakshmi Maternity Benefit scheme also provides Amma Maternity Nutrition Kit aimed at providing iron tonic and nutritional supplements to pregnant women in Tamil Nadu.

Eligibility Criteria of Muthulakshmi Maternity Benefit Scheme

  • The pregnant mother should have completed 19 yrs of age
  • The eligible mother will receive all 5 Installments for Two deliveries only
  • HOB and Migrant mothers will receive 1st and 5th installments on certain conditions

The Poor Pregnant mother should register her pregnancy before 12 weeks with the VHN / UHN or she should have pre – registered her pregnancy before 12 weeks.

KCR Kit and Amma Vodi Scheme

KCR Kit and Amma Vodi Scheme provides financial benefits and assistance to pregnant women at every stage of pregnancy. As part of this scheme, financial assistance of Rs 12,000 will be provided for baby boy and Rs 13,000 for baby girl. This scheme is available in Telangana state only.

Amma Vodi scheme also provides free transport facilities in an ambulance to diagnostic services for regular check-ups and tests for pregnant women in Telengana. The vehicle will then drop the pregnant women back to their homes.

JananiSurakshaYojana (JSY)

Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) is a centrally sponsored scheme, which provides cash assistance with delivery and post-delivery care to pregnant women in India. The scheme focuses on poor pregnant woman with a special focus on states that have low institutional delivery rates, such as, the states of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Assam, Rajasthan, Orissa, and Jammu and Kashmir. While these states have been named Low Performing States (LPS), the remaining states have been named High Performing states (HPS).

Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakaram

It provides Free Delivery, Free medicines, Free transport, Free diagnostic and Free treatment/medicines of the baby till 30 days.

Mukhyamantri Rajshri Yojana

It offers monetary benefits to parents of girl children(in Rajasthan), starting from their birth till their Higher education (Total = Rs. 25,000/-).
